Stockport Plaza Wedding Photography

Michelle & Brendon’s unique wedding photos from the incredible Stockport Plaza

Michelle & Brendon invited me to be their Stockport Plaza Wedding Photographer back in November. A totally unique wedding, in a totally unique venue. When they asked me to photograph their wedding, I didn’t even hesitate to say yes, or even ask my usual pre-wedding meeting questions. This professional couple are so laid back it’s untrue; film fans, real ale fans, plus an absolute dream to deal with! My brief? ‘Just do your own thing Mick – but we love grainy mono and film-like images. Yay! me too…

I caught up with Michelle, her sister and bridesmaid at Didsbury House Hotel for the preparations.  Quietly pensive, possibly a little nervous…but definitely excited about becoming the new Mrs Hall, Michelle was just taking it all in her stride. Complete with home made bouquets, and funky shoes….that even I stopped to chat with Michelle about (yes – me!)

With a little time to spare, it was onto the stairs for a few bridal portraits….well, it’d be rude not to!

This is my favourite from the session…

From Didsbury, it was a quick jaunt down the M60 to catch up with Brendon and some of the guests at The Bakers Vaults pub, just up the road from the Plaza. A proper pub, for proper real ale fans…

Michelle and the girls were expertly delivered by Graham at I Do Taxi – one of life’s true gentlemen, and always a pleasure to work with…

Now – the exciting bit! As the guests sat in the first few rows of the theatre, the lights dimmed, the registrar came from behind the curtain to talk to the gathered ‘audience’. Then, the curtains opened, and Brendon was standing on stage, with best man and witnesses. Pure theatre – and brilliant. The music started and the spotlights came on, as the two bridesmaids led Michelle and her dad down the aisle and stagewards. Expertly choreographed by lighting technician Ben, and overseen by the wedding planner, Vicky – THIS was how to make an entrance!

This was just brilliant to experience, (and I bet an even bigger buzz for Michelle & Brendon), as we all watched the ceremony taking place on stage.  No zooms here, all shot on prime lenses with Nikon D3s and D700 cameras, with full 1980s colour and mono film emulation. Authentic grain, available light…brilliant!

Aided by Brendon’s mate Rick, we quickly shot the formals using a combination of off camera flash plus an LED video panel light here and there. Thanks Rick!

After the wedding breakfast and speeches, it was time for the guests to ‘take their seats’ once again in the auditorium. As a surprise, the curtains opened to reveal Michelle singing with her choir! ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ started the medley of classic hits…all brilliantly performed. There was dancing in the aisles too!

Back on stage, Michelle & Brendon had their celebratory cake cutting, and first dance – all spotlit by Ben.

If you’re planning a unique wedding  – why not say hello and see some more of my work over a coffee?
