Highlights from Karen & Simon’s summer wedding at this exclusive Lake District venue
Exclusive Lake District wedding venue
I love wedding photography at The Samling. It is one of my favourite venues to photograph weddings at. The Samling is simply stunning; one of the very best exclusive wedding and private use venues anywhere, let alone the in the Lake District. It is very highly rated in the media, and its Michelin Star menu and wine list are simply world class; good enough for Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman and David Beckham.
The Samling describes itself as:
“One of the Most Romantic Hotels in the World and is the perfect venue for you to host your wedding day for up to 80 wedding guests. The hotel is a beautiful eighteenth century house perched above the shores of Lake Windermere with stunning views. With a whole galaxy of stars as fans and a new restaurant development there really is no better place to tie the knot this year…”
So last Summer saw me back, photographing Karen & Simon’s stunning intimate family wedding, complete with nine course taster menu. Here some highlights from the day…
Classic Lake District wedding
Karen & Simon’s wedding was to be a classic Samling experience – twenty two guests in the main house for pre-ceremony afternoon tea, the main ceremony in the new restaurant, plus exclusivity throughout the day. Wow – the day was going to prove a brilliant wedding to capture, but a difficult one too as I had to be even more the ‘fat ninja’ and not get in the way. I arrived to find the guests arriving and enjoying drinks on the patio, greeting Karen & Simon like they were already married…and we were still a couple of hours away yet.
Wedding ceremonies in the Lakes
As the ceremony time beckoned, the guests took their seats in the new annexe, waiting for an ever-smiling Karen to appear. And bang on time, she did, flanked by her son and niece. As wedding ceremonies in the Lakes go, this was a bit special. Simon is a keen photographer too, but I had to keep reminding him that we could ‘talk all things cameras’ later on the day, and to concentrate on the ceremony first 😉
Views across Windermere
With the ceremony finished, and a few family group photos ‘in the can’, the guests mingled on the terrace, enjoying fine wine, and canapes in the sunshine; hinting at the Michelin Star dining to come. The weather was glorious, and the views across Windermere simply stunning. I managed to capture the day naturally, but doing the opposite of what I normally do when I’m working – I stopped to chat with all the guests as I was working. Suddenly I was Guest 23 and had ‘access all areas’ while I captured the story of the wedding as it rolled out…
Dining at The Samling
The new extension had just been completed for Karen & Simon’s wedding. Before this purpose built restaurant existed, The Samling used to cater for around twenty four people maximum for exclusive weddings. Now they can accommodate up to eighty with ease…well, maybe not so easy on the Michelin star kitchen… 😉 Weddings at The Samling are unique, and I am looking forward to photographing more weddings there soon.
