Celebrating The Wedding of Wendy & Gwion at ABode, Chester

Wendy & Gwion emailed me to ask me to be their ABode Chester Wedding Photographer for their September Wedding. How could I say no – after all, my first visit to ABode with Jenny & Darren was a brilliant wedding day! Wendy & Gwion’s plans were more low key for this visit. An intimate family wedding, the couple were (self-confessed) camera shy and just wanted me to be ‘Fat Ninja’ for the day…and document their wedding with little intrusion. Fine by me!

With no bridal preparations to photograph, I had a relatively late start to the day, spending a lot of my time with Gwion and the wedding guests, as they duly arrived for the ceremony and celebrations.

On cue, and as the guests had all been seated, Wendy arrived with her proud dad…who I was totally convinced I’d met before…he had one of those friendly faces though…

From the ceremony, we whisked ourselves outside for a few family group shots, hoping to beat the threatening rain! We spent around fifteen minutes on the family groups, then the guests left us to it, for a further twenty minutes or so. Still very relaxed, very quietly excited (and camera-shy!) I left Wendy & Gwion to be themselves as we wandered around the hotel complex. The confidence was building though as the minutes ticked by, and suddenly they both sprung to life, and the shyness was gone!

Then we went up in the lift to the Fifth Floor, and Michael Caine’s wonderful restaurant. With time for a few canapes and a couple of drinks, I quietly mingled with the guests ‘doing my thing’ until they were called in for the wedding breakfast.

After the stunning wedding breakfast, it was time for the speeches. Technically I had a couple of things stacked against me here….a large window creating silhouettes, plus a very exuberant overhead projector casting a strong green light onto the Father of The Bride. Hmmm, I decided to ‘go wide’ and stand next to the top table. If I breathed in, nobody would notice me 😉

As my time with the newlyweds drew to a close – so came the rain. So I quietly left the wedding party celebrating the new Mr & Mrs McOwat’s special day…
