Northcote Wedding Photography

Sacha & Jonathan’s wedding photography from Northcote Manor – a stunning Lancashire venue

Here is an example of my Northcote wedding photography. Sacha & Jonathan were married recently at the stunning Northcote, just outside Blackburn, on the edge of the Ribble Valley. This stunning Country Hotel is famous for it’s fine cuisine. The kitchen is run by award-winning chefs, Nigel Haworth, Lisa Goodwin Allen . Theirs was to be an intimate family wedding – just eighteen or so, gathered to see this fun-loving couple tie the knot. With the empahsis on close family, my brief was to become guest number nineteen and ‘mix it’ with the rest. I chose to travel light for this wedding, shooting mainly on prime lenses, though I did keep a trusty zoom in the car for the bride and groom portraits to help speed things along a little. It was early March after all….and still very cold! 😉

The ceremony was to be late in the afternoon, so I arrived around noon to catch up with Sacha and her mum enjoying their preparations in a beautiful suite. Sacha & Jon’s daughter Sadie was there too ‘helping’ us –  in between watching her favourite programmes on CBeebies!

On cue, the stunning flowers arrived. Floristry for this wedding was in the capable hands of the girls from The Flower Shop in Clitheroe.

This was my first visit to this stunning Lancashire wedding venue, and I was really looking forward to producing a good wedding collection from my Northcote wedding photography shoot for Sacha & Jon.

I had time enough to catch up with Jon and his brother getting ready, before meeting family and other guests downstairs in the bar…the prime lenses were getting a good workout on this wedding, as you’ll see later…

As the ceremony time approached, young Sadie was still helping…

..and Jon and the guests were sharing a few laughs…

The low, harh sunlight was doing nothing to help the ceremony, so we had to close the curtains – which was a shame, but the sunlight and the contrast would have killed the wedding images completely! Fot the photographers out there, I was running from 250 iso outside to 3200 iso inside on the primes, shooting around the f2 mark. A dramatic difference…and no zoom would have helped here.

The Nikons were handling this low light scenario perfectly. I’m a low light specialist, and rarely use flash if I can. It simply kills the atmosphere. The 24mm and 50mm lenses were cruising…

We had a fifteen minute portrait session outside, mainly to beat the cold and grab some sunlight images. To save time, I used 24-70mm and 70-200mm lenses on the cameras; the ground was still very wet and boggy, so moving Sacha around the grounds effectively wasn’t an option…

With a few family group shots in the bag, we were back inside to the relative warmth and comfort of the Louis Roederer Suite for the Wedding Breakfast. After a couple more drinks and laughs of course…

As the sunlight started to fade, the guests assembled around the beautifully laid table for the six course wedding breakfast, I was back on the primes…at 4000 iso this time. It was now dark outside, so no chance of any daylight helping out. Perfect!

With some brilliant speeches, ably heckled by Grandad (he should have done a speech by himself, he was hilarious!), it was time for me to quietly leave the wedding breakfast to begin, and leave the family with a little privacy…
