Emma & Tom’s big day at this top Lancashire wedding venue

Lancashire Wedding Venue

Back to July 2017 and my being a Beeston Manor Wedding Photographer.  Emma & Tom were married recently at Beeston Manor, a Grade II listed barn conversion set in 140 acres of land, and definitely one of Lancashire’s top wedding venues. I have photographed weddings at the venue a few times before and love the place. Expertly run by Amy, together with the owners Janet & John, Beeston Manor is a perfect choice for that rural ‘feel’ to your wedding or event. I love being a Beeston Manor Wedding Photographer, and the scope of opportunities the venue offers is simply brilliant.

Lancashire Makeup Artist

My day started at Emma & Tom’s home in Chorley. As I quietly captured the hustle and bustle of the morning bridal preparations, all handled expertly by the very talented Kerry Baker MUA, the morning slowly evolved and gathered pace. As the flowers arrived, beautiful bouquets from The Gilded Lily, the atmosphere started to buzz more and more. Dad arrived and quietly found a ‘safe’ corner in which to put the finishing touches to his speech, while Gran held court in the makeup room, laughing and joking with the girls. Not long to go now.

Lancashire Wedding Ceremony

The Groomsmen arrived nice and early, to gree the expected guests. The Priest was relaxed and let me have a relativley free-reign in photographing the ceremony – which is always nice! And as the guests were bustled into St Gregory’s Church, Emma duly arrived with the bridesmaids and her father in one of Horgan’s wedding cars.

A Beeston Manor Wedding

Emma & Tom’s special day was to be a classic Beeston Manor experience. As a Beeston Manor Wedding Photographer, I wanted to document their day as unobtrusively as I could, capturing that ‘live’ feel of their wedding celebrations – the natural relaxed couple photos plus a few family group photos thrown in. All nice and natural…maybe with a touch of style too. 😉 As the guests descended in the bar area, we popped out for a few minutes of Bride & Groom photos – all live and unstaged, with a little light direction from myself here and there. In less time than it takes to drink a glass of Prosecco, we were back. We’d beaten the wind stealing Emma’s veil too. Good catch Tom, and thanks Kerry for being our ‘Wingman’ for this one.

Speeches at a wedding

The speeches were brilliant, heartfelt, emotional and funny. It was also Emma’s 29th Birthday again 😉  so was a double celebration! Beeston Manor is perfectly set up for a wedding and as a  Beeston Manor Wedding Photographer, I love the little nooks and crannies I can jam the cameras into. I struggle a little more, being slightly larger than a Nikon of course. 😉 From speeches we were off into the evening celebrations, expertly hosted by Ian Lawton.

Best Lancashire Venues for Wedding Photography 2017

I recently posted a blog about my favourite wedding photography from 2016. I regularly get asked by couples, family and friends where the best wedding venues are for capturing magical natural wedding photos. This got me thinking about what venues I really enjoy shooting at that allow me to be ultra creative in a live and unstaged environment. With this in mind, here are some of my top choices for best Lancashire venues for amazing wedding photography in 2017.

Browsholme Hall

One of the best venues for Lancashire wedding photography, Browsholme Hall & the Tithe Barn always provide so many brilliant options. The Hall offers the opulence, history and luxury of a stately home where many couples choose to have their ceremony. The Tithe Barn for the reception is a recent multi-million pound refurbished barn with period features, oak beams, exposed stone walls and looks incredible when lit by candlelight.

Beeston Manor

BEESTON MANOR WEDDINGS - LITTLE WHITE BOOKS SHOOT 22

Beeston Manor is without doubt one of Lancashire’s most sought after wedding venues and with 140 acres of land to play with, it’s no surprise why. Like Browsholme, it has a converted 16th century barn with high oak beams and sandstone walls. I love shooting in barn venues like this as you can really get a wonderfully atmospheric feel to all your wedding photos. I especially mention Beeston Manor because of the famous helicopter pad for a special arrival of the bride and groom. As you can imagine, this facility means we can capture some truly extraordinary wedding photography!

Bartle Hall

Bartle Hall Wedding Photography Lancashire // Dawn & MichaelI’ve been a Bartle Hall Wedding photographer a few times in 2016 and I always look forward to returning (as I am already in 2017!). With stunning grounds and gardens (and some decent weather) I can capture some beautiful and natural shots of guests milling about outside on the terrace. More than often, it’s those live and natural shots that produce the very best memories. If it rains, there are plenty of original features and charm inside the building which means that you don’t necessarily have to worry too much about the weather.

Eaves Hall

EAVES HALL WINTER WEDDING

Nestled in the heart of the beautiful Ribble Valley, Eaves Hall is a stunning Lancashire wedding venue for photography. Yet again, it has the right balance of charm and history inside the Georgian mansion with the surrounding beauty of the gardens and grounds. The venue makes it very easy to capture the elegance of a wedding, but also all the excitement, emotion and joy that only comes with natural wedding photography.

Mitton Hall

MITTON HALL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER - KERI & TOM 56

The photo above shows how spectacular Mitton Hall really is for any Lancashire wedding photographer. The 15th century house is full of intricate features, charming quirks and some stunning views over the Lancashire country side. I really enjoy weddings here because they allow you to capture some fantastic natural light shots both in and outside. When the main chandelier is lit and the sun has gone down, the main hall (in the photo above) creates such an intimate and romantic atmosphere that it really makes for a great picture.

So there you have it, five of my personal favourite venues for Lancashire wedding photography. If you like what you see and what to have a chat about previous weddings I’ve done in Lancashire, or perhaps even some venue suggestions, please just get in touch.

Keely & Craig were married recently at Beeston Manor – one of the busiest and most sought-after wedding venues in Lancashire. The couple booked me for their Beeston Manor Wedding Photography from a previous wedding fair at the venue, hosted by Little White Books. Here are the highlights from the day….from ridiculous flash flood showers to almost cloudless skies, seemingly every hour!

Beeston Manor Wedding

Beeston Manor is set in the heart of the Lancashire countryside, situated between Preston and Blackburn. Housed in a restored 16th-century sandstone barn, this family-run guesthouse on 140 acres is 3.1 miles from the M6 motorway . With rustic-elegant rooms featured oak beams, pink sandstone walls, oak furniture and high-end en suite bathrooms, Beeston Manor is one of the most popular wedding venues in Lancashire. Expertly run by Janet, John and the ‘human dynamo’ that is Amy, Beeston Manor offers everything you’d need for your perfect Lancashire Wedding Photography…even a helicopter!

Rural Wedding Venue in Lancashire

Beeston Manor has a lovely rural feel about it, and is both a very unique venue – plus it’s also an exclusive one too. A Beeston Manor Wedding is always great to photograph. From the stunning ceremony room, through to the landscaped gardens, and the brilliant natural array of farm buildings around the venue, it’s a wedding photographer’s dream. Mix that with a bit of Lancashire sunshine, and voila!

kc_wedding024

I met Keely and the girls having their hair and makeup done upstairs at Beeston Manor. In full high spirits, things were going well. Apart from the torrential rain showers. Hmmm…wonder if we’d beat them today?

Weddings at Beeston Manor

The ceremony room at Beeston Manor was set up nice and early, allowing me to grab a few images like these. The peace was soon to be broken though (in a nice way!) once the guests arrived and we were a few minutes away from the ceremony.

Lancashire Bride, Lancashire Wedding Venue

Keely and Craig were fairly local to Beeston Manor, so it was perfect for them and their families too. As the ceremony time approached, Keely was putting on her wedding dress and making those final touches, ably aided by her bridesmaids. Craig, however was greeting the guests in the bar…but not drinking alcohol I hasten to add!

Stunning Lancashire Wedding

As the guests took their seats, it was time for the wedding party to appear. Bridesmaids and flowergirls first…then that all-important gap befor Keely and her dady walked down the aisle to that almost inaudible rush of gasps and delight. Craig suddenly changed from the slightly anxious groom, to a very excited, proud man as he saw his bride walking towards him.

Wedding Reception in Lancashire

With the ceremony finished, and the necessary paperwork done, it was time to step things up a gear. By now the rain had gone and the sunshine was threatening to emerge at some point. We quickly shot the family groups and everybody started mingling. A couple of showers sent us back inside for a while, but the smart money was still on Mr Sunshine at evens. We should see…

A Perfect Lancashire Wedding Venue

As the showers hit, I had time to photograph the wedding breakfast room. It looked stunning. Creative Cover Hire had done a brilliant job. The rain can do it’s worst now, for the next couple of hours or so. But no! Gone, instantly. And the sun shone brightly as the guests finished their drinks. Wedding photos at Beeston Manor

With the weather now firmly on our side, Keely, Craig and I ventured out for a few more wedding photos after the wedding breakfast and speeches. We had a good fifteen minutes or so to grab some very natural and relaxed Bride & Groom portraits, so we made use of the time. This was more like it! Natural moments, captured in a natural style with no forced direction from me.

Charlotte & Simon were married recently at Beeston Manor in Lancashire. A lovely family run venue, deep in the heart of Lancashire, Beeston Manor has that ‘country house meets farm’ feel about it. Gorgeous! We’d originally met about a year ago –  at a wedding fair at the venue, hosted by Little White Books. With the winter ending and spring in the air, the day started well with some sunshine, but true to form, turned for the worse as the day progressed. Ah well; this would never spoil the party anyway…and I was here as the couple’s Beeston Manor Wedding photographer, not to point at isobars on a screen, 😉

Fast forward a few months and we met for a pre-wedding meeting and E-Shoot, where Laura & Lee decided on one of the stunning acrylic cover Bellissimo digital albums I supply. On the wedding day, the weather looked fairly hideous – dark grey skies, intermittent rain…nightmare, but we soldiered on. Married at Pleasington Priory, the couple were secretly whisked off from a field behind the church by John, the owner  of Beeston Manor…in his helicopter! Here are some highlights from the day, captured dutifully on the Nikons…

Beeston Manor Wedding Photography – Little White Books Shoot

Well – here it is – finally revealed! The latest issue of the Little White Books magazine, and who got to shoot the front cover? Yep, me…with a lot of help from some very patient friends… 😉

Following on from the last project, the LWB Team assembled on a beautifully wet June afternoon, to produce the new cover image, plus a editorial for inside the magazine too. The weather had been glorious all week, but obviously when it came to our shoot, the rain fell…and fell..and fell, soaking the ground beyond a practical working level. So, undeterred we still ventured up to Beeston Manor for the shoot. This project was less about me being a Beeston Manor Wedding Photographer, than being Ray Mears, dealing with and ‘surviving’ what I can only describe as “a swimming pool with grass!”

Eventually the rain slowed and we could see blue sky, but it was too little, too late, as we had to shoot and get something in the bag. Struggling under umbrellas, to keep the beautiful wedding gown dry and safe –  Joanne and Kristina on Makeup and hair duties, plus Clare and Andrew on Styling and Jewellery did their very best to get our fantastic (and patient!) model Kirsty ready. I could hear the subtle giggles from the gang too, as a wet ‘tide mark’ started climbing my trouser legs. As the shoot progressed, so did the marks, like my jeans were acting as straws. Perfect! I’d no spare clothes with me either…so the giggling and subtle pointing got worse…ha ha…bloomin’ hilarious guys!!

beeston_manor_wedding_photographer_05So…with the rain finally stopping, we got to work, now with diminished time available for the ‘look’ of the shot. The pressure was on to produce, and we did. Simple as, everything fell into place after a few lighting tests (and a change of bin liner for me to lie on). Kirsty was great and smiled through the whole ordeal. Did I say it was cold too…in June? Yep, it was, but our model bride soldiered on and we hit shot after shot. The sun broke for a few minutes, so Glynn, who was in charge of the Land Rover moved it into a new position, to maximise what light we had, and to minimise the heavy black clouds rolling in for a further attack on our setup (and my tidemark!)

These images show subtle changes in colour grading and film emulation, to give a slightly dated look to the work – nothing too OTT though, all very tasteful. I used a Nikon D600 camera for this shoot, for the extra resolution – and though handled most of the shoot perfectly did hiccup a couple of times…that’s why I still love my D3s / D700 combination.

I’m not going to blow my own trumpet here, that’s not my style..but the results almost turn me and the team into liars about the conditions we had to endure…oh how we suffer for our art… 😉
